Exhibitor: What’s New in 2013
This year the Victorian Wines Show builds on the improvements made in 2012. The relocation to Mitchelton Wines has been a great success. Judging panels remain largely unchanged made up of some of the most respected judges in the country (refer to the schedule for a list of judges). Gary Baldwin will head up the team once more. Judges are excited about the high quality of wines coming off the back of a strong 2012 vintage and even stronger 2013. There will be some difficult decisions to be made.
The show is developing a steward to associate program in conjunction with WSET and continues to reserve an associate position for a scholar of the Lorenzo Galli scholarship which was an initiative of 2012.
There is the inclusion of a new trophy specifically to recognize small producers. The criteria to qualify being growers with a total of less than 4 hectares of grapes (not less than 4 hectares on one vineyard of many!). These producers will be eligible for the trophy of “Best wine boutique vineyard”. The VWS realise what a significant role these growers play in the Victorian wine industry and wish to acknowledge them specifically. All classes in the show are eligible for this trophy. Exhibitors need just tick a box on the schedule to indicate you qualify for this award.
In 2013 we are launching an online entry and payment system which we expect will make the entry process more efficient and faster for both exhibitors and our secretary. This system is being provided by Original Software’s Showday Online and you will be redirected to their website when you click the button to submit your entry. We’ve streamlined our results books and medal certificates this year, allowing us to have them in the post in under a week; avoiding the timely delays of previous years.
The VWS has been able to keep entry fees down to one of the lowest of the major shows in the country. This is made possible by very strong commercial support from our 16 sponsors for whom we are all very grateful. We have increased the exhibit bottle number to five, to provide an adequate supply to an improved Exhibitor and Public Tasting Event, which we have been developing with tourism networks; allowing your brand to be showcased more adequately. We hope to see strong exhibitor support allowing us to break through 1 000 entry mark this year! This would be a great milestone for the show and Victoria.
The presentation dinner will once again be at Fowles restaurant and Bryan Dawe had such a great time in 2012 he wants to be our MC again in 2013. We expect after the outrageous success in 2012 the night will sell out fast so be sure to book in early!
See you at the show.
